If you think you might be interested in submitting crochet pattern designs, you're going to need to do some research first!
Read and review the different types of crochet pattern books/leaflets now selling. So-and-so may be selling a lot of afghan designs in a particular style. You may want to consider that style or you may want to go with something completely different.
Research different trends in color. A good place to start is a current home decor catalog like Sears or JC Penney.
Research the different yarns and yarn companies and determine what publishers prefer what types of yarns. Never use discontinued yarns when designing! A discontinued color is just as bad!
Review and thoroughly digest this site. It should be your designing "mini-bible":
Lastly, review the designer guidelines for each publisher. Review their publications to determine how they like their patterns written. Here is a list of just a few links on the internet to Designer Guidelines. Note that not all of these publishers provide their guidelines online. If you are interested in a particular publisher, you may want to send them a letter or email asking for their guidelines. Remember to always be formal! If you want to be respected as a business owner, no smiley faces in emails allowed!
And, I think that's about it for now. Please comment below if you have other links that I missed. And, please remember that you can subscribe to this Blog for updates each time I post by submitting your email address in the left column.
